The hodgepodge machine is a cellular automaton invented by Martin Gerhardt and Heike Schuster.
Cells can either be healthy (light green), infected or ill (dark red).
The initial state of the cells is random.
The new state of each cell depends on that of it's neighbours:
healthy cells may become infected and infected cells may become ill.
Ill cells become healthy again.
The cells of this hodgepodge machine are tileable.
